Numeracy programs at Bertram Primary School are designed to provide robust learning of the content described in the West Australian Mathematics Curriculum for the content strands of Number & Algebra, Measurement & Geometry and Statistics & Probability. A combination of explicit teaching and a hands-on investigative approach contribute to engaging students with high interest learning experiences that are tailored to suit student need.
A major focus is placed on developing mathematical fluency and problem solving skills from Kindergarten to Year 6. All students are encouraged to use correct mathematical vocabulary and symbolic representation of situations from Kindergarten through to the upper primary year levels with increasingly sophisticated proficiency. Mathematics is also integrated across other curriculum areas to ensure that students work mathematically in authentic, real-life contexts.
All students at Bertram Primary School have access to Mathematics to support numeracy programs and give them opportunities to reinforce concepts at home. We foster an enjoyment of numeracy in a learning environment that is both supportive and challenging.
An achievement standard describes the quality of learning (the extent of knowledge, the depth of understanding and the sophistication of skills) that would indicate the student is well placed to commence the learning required at the next level of achievement.
At Bertram we have created a summary of the Achievement Standards Numeracy on how you can support your child to meet the Achievement Standards.
