Although there are only two weeks of Term 3 left there are lots of special events scheduled between now and the holidays. Every Monday afternoon (or as soon as possible after that time) whole school announcements are uploaded to every student’s SeeSaw page, ensuring parents are informed of upcoming events. Please make a habit of checking SeeSaw regularly to share your child’s learning journey and to stay current with what is happening at Bertram Primary School.
Our Book Fair opened this morning in the Exploratorium (library). Between today and next Wednesday every LA will have the opportunity to visit the Book Fair and students will make a wish list. The Book Fair will be open before and after school every day for you to make purchases. The Book Fair is a wonderful fundraiser for the school which is always well supported by our families. A huge thank you to Miss Layton and her team of helpers. A special welcome back to Mrs White who is helping out this week.
Reading is a skill that is learn, and needs to be practiced. As a parent you can can support your child by helping them read at home. Here are some great ideas for reading at home as a family:
- Have a special place at home to keep books and other ready materials.
- Encourage your child to choose what they would like to read.
- Let your child see you reading – for enjoyment and to learn.
- Encourage your child to set aside a regular time for reading each day.
- Try out books in a series. If your child gets ‘hooked’ by the first book they are more likely to continue reading the series.
- Never Stop Reading!
Open Night is an important event on the school calendar, and one of our four reporting to parents opportunities. This is a time to look at what your child has been learning and to talk to them about their achievements and progress this year. There is no time on Open Night for individual meetings with teachers, however if you would like to arrange an interview please let your child’s teacher know.
This year on Open Night we have a range of food trucks set up next to the K/P playground between 5:00pm and 8:00pm, providing the opportunity for you to have dinner at school or take some food home with you. The following food trucks have confirmed they will be attending and will be making a donation back to the school:
- Big 5 Curry Den – South African/Indian
- Banana Leaf Food Truck – Filipino
- That Food Truck – Burgers & Chips
- Tomato & Basil – Italian Pizza
- Bean and Gone – Coffee
- Sweet on the Run – Icecream
The gates leading in to the Trusty Way carpark will be open to allow members of the public to purchase from the food trucks so please let your friends know.
Our Year 6 campers are currently at Kerem Adventure Camp in Bullsbrook and are being challenged by a range of activities every day, developing personal competencies such as self-identity, leadership and self-respect. We look forward to hearing all about their adventures when they return on Friday afternoon.
R U OK? Day is a day of action dedicated to encouraging all Australians to ask family, friends and colleagues “Are you OK?”. Simply by connecting with people in your life you can help stop little problems become bigger.
On the last day of term, Friday September 21st we will be having our first R U OK? Day at Bertram and students and parents are encouraged to wear yellow. Students will be participating in lessons to support their social and emotional well being and parents are invited to participate in a Rhythm 2 Recovery drumming session during Community Chat in the morning and to come to the Mental Health and Well Being Community Expo at the end of the school day.
Thank you for your ongoing support.
Whatever your holiday plans, try to get outdoors and enjoy the fresh air and sunshine every day.
