The Bertram Bandicoots braved chilly conditions to compete in the Interschool Cross Country Carnival at Thomas Oval in Week 3. Mr Myers and Miss Campbell reported the team’s behaviour was amazing and they finished 4th overall. Well done to all those runners who represented Bertram Primary so well.
This year The Smith Family invited Bertram Primary to participate in the Young ICT Explorers program. Young ICT Explorers is a non-profit competition created to encourage school students to create their best ICT related projects. Students in teams submitted their design ideas to the organisers and all of their proposals were accepted, meaning all Bertram teams will have the opportunity to present their project to a judging panel of academia, industry partners and ICT professionals at Edith Cowan University on September 15th. Each project will be assessed on the criteria of creativity, uniqueness, quality, level of difficulty and project documentation. Mr Redman and the teams will be working hard to ensure their projects are finished and ready to be presented in time for judging.
We have had a busy but successful start to swimming lessons this week and the feedback from the pool is our students have been displaying their Bertram FRREE behaviours. Due to swimming there will be some timetable changes over the next four weeks so your child’s routine may be disrupted to some extent. Swimming always generates a large amount of lost property so please try to follow up the next day if your child comes home without a piece of clothing or any other item.
Pancake Wednesdays continue to break their own record for number of pancakes served each week. It has been a fantastic support to have families assisting staff each week. Remember, you don’t need to make a regular commitment, just let Jessi Penney in the kitchen know when you are available.
It was both pleasing and surprising to see so many people at the last P&C Meeting given it was such a cold, miserable night. Joining the P&C is a great way to support the school and meet new people. There are many ways you can get involved depending on your interests and availability. The P&C is currently fundraising for the resurfacing of the tennis/basketball courts. We are looking forward to the Quiz Night this Friday being a great success. Timetables will be out soon for the P&C Father’s Day Stall which will be held in Week 7.
Community Chat is held in the staffroom every Friday morning. A range of topics have been selected to introduce parents to the WA Curriculum and to show how they can support their child’s progress. Last Friday Mrs Awasthi introduced parents to a range of Maths games and they had the opportunity to make a Maths game and take it home. This Friday Mrs Slade will be getting creative and introducing parents to the Arts curriculum. A light morning tea is provided and children are welcome under your supervision. Please consider including Community Chat into your Friday morning plans. If you have suggestions for sessions please talk to Mrs Hargreaves or Mrs Stott.
The senior choir has a busy couple of weeks ahead with rehearsals and performances. Please be sure you are aware of timelines and key dates. This Friday a select group of Year 6 choir members will have the opportunity to join the audience to listen to choirs from other schools perform at One Big Voice at Perth Arena. This will give them the chance to learn and develop from the performance of others.
Seesaw is an effective way for parents and the school to communicate and for children to share their achievements with their families. To ensure information is being received by as many families as possible, whole school and cohort alerts are being uploaded every Monday afternoon. Please check Seesaw on Monday evenings to see what is happening at school.
Next Friday we need to submit our expected student numbers for 2019. If you will not be returning to Bertram Primary next year please let the front office know or email firstname.lastname@example.org as a matter of urgency. If your child is currently in kindy, please return their pre-primary form if they will be remaining at Bertram next year with your proof of residence.
A new Facebook group has been set up for students enrolled at Bertram for kindy 2019 – search Bertram Primary School Kindy 2019 and request to join. Information about upcoming transition events and how you can help prepare your child for kindy will be shared through this page.
We still have a couple of spaces in our new kindy class. If you have a child born between 1st July 203 and 30th June 2014 who is not attending kindy, please come in and enrol them.
Thank you for your ongoing support.
