Hello to the Bertram school community from the relaxing couch of Long Service Leave. I am writing to you all today with both sadness and excitement as I formally advise everyone of my retirement at the conclusion of my current leave.
As you are aware I am the foundation principal of Bertram and have planned and prepared our school, staff and students right from the beginning. In mid-2006 I accepted the position of the as yet unnamed school on Champion Drive in Bertram. I established the office in a rental house in Warrior Pass and set about employing staff and planning everything a new school might require. Six months later we opened our doors to 250 students and so began our journey together.
Over the years my staff and I have worked continuously to ensure a rich learning environment was created and maintained and Bertram PS is a great place to come everyday.
I am proud of the school we have all created, exciting, supportive, challenging and recognised as an educational leader. My departure will see a new leader appointed to our school, hopefully for a Term 4 start. Mrs Weir will fulfil the role of principal until the new person is appointed. Being an Independent Public School our Board will have a representative on the selection committee and this should ensure a level of continuity in our educational and social direction into the future.
Today was Grandparent’s Day at Bertram and you need look no further than this celebration to see the success of our school – grandparents come from far and wide, teachers create wonderful in class experiences and children share their learning with those who love them and they love – this is what school is about.
Thank you for sharing my journey, make the most of everyday because life is not a dress rehearsal.
Bye for now
The best wishes of our school community go with Geoff as he embarks on the next part of his journey. We have a great school, a collaborative staff and a supporting parent community. These attributes do not happen overnight and are a testament to the culture Geoff has developed in his time at Bertram. Now it is up to us to continue to reflect, review and strive to be Bertram FRREE every day.
Geoff’s official retirement function will be held on Thursday, June 28th at 3:30pm in the Undercover Area. If you would like to attend this afternoon tea function, please RSVP to Di Brown on 94191762 or email firstname.lastname@example.org
Thank you to our staff for their early start today. Preparing for Pancake Wednesday at the same time as Grandparent’s Day is not an easy task. When I arrived at school at 7:00am the kitchen was already buzzing – that is commitment! It is wonderful to see our students also taking such an active – and proactive – role in our school. Their contribution to events such as this is pivotal to their success.
A shout out to Daniel Richardson from Richo Hire for providing the marquees for Grandparent’s Day, providing a lovely area for our families to enjoy morning tea.
The City of Kwinana is in the process of building clubrooms and toilets on the Bertram Oval. At present a contractor is digging a trench diagonally across the oval for the sewer. As a result, we have postponed the House Cross Country until Friday, June 29th (the last day of Term 2). We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause, however the safety of our staff and students is our priority.
A reminder this Friday is a School Development Day and students do not attend. Staff will be participating in workshops on Kagan, Autism, Student Management and Coding throughout the day. Monday is a public holiday for WA Day.
Thank you for your continued support.
PBS MESSAGE FOR THE FORTNIGHT
School Development Day (Friday 1st June) – Please make sure that you book your child for this day as it is not a normal BSC or ASC booking.
Rollover to on-line Bookings – this is due to commence on Tuesday 5th June. By the weekend you will have received an email that directs you to a link, follow the link and select, Create New User, follow the prompts and upload your payment details (this is not able to be rolled over due to security reasons). Please amend any details on your enrolment.
On your first drop off or collection of your child from care you must bring your mobile number so that we can then create your log-in. We hope that this is going to be an easier process to manage your bookings, personal details and account balances.
Absent Children – parents are reminded to contact the service prior to the session if your child / children will not be attending . This is a continual issue which creates additional worry and work for staff each day. This notification must be made by the parent or guardian via text, email or in person, not the child.
